Independent Living Program
Most of the clients that are referred to the independent living program are unstable in most facets of life. They generally come from a volatile home environment, are having problems in their social lives, many of these clients are dealing with substance abuse issues and almost all of them have no interest in education.
One such client was referred to us after his 18th birthday. At the time of referral, he had no interest in finishing high school, no interest in pursuing employment and no interest in learning the skills necessary to lead a productive life. After only 4 months in the STBHS transitional living program, this client received his high school diploma, was awarded a scholarship to a state university and secured meaningful employment. This client is a shining example of what a stable environment can do for a young adult.
